St. Norbert School, a progressive, child-centered Catholic school is accepting applications for a school guidance counselor, for the 2021-2022 school year and beyond. The position will be from January 5, 2022 until the end of the school year. This staff position supports the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students at St. Norbert School.

We are a faith-based school community that believes in offering each student a child-centered, challenging curriculum. We value creativity, social emotional awareness, and experience. We are in search of a candidate that understands the importance of educating the whole child.

The successful candidate will provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to build cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Candidate will provide unit and lesson plan by which classes are conducted.
Candidate must be an enthusiastic, professional, dependable, warm, kind, innovative individual who preferably has experience and qualifications per the State of Illinois to work with children in an elementary school setting.

Qualifications

• School Counselor License or Professional Counselor License preferred
• Experience counseling in urban and/or diverse communities
• Deep belief in the potential of all children and the values of Catholic education
• Ability to cultivate a loving and joyful student culture
• Sensitive and responsive to the needs of others
• Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills
• Demonstrated ability to operate with a growth mindset and seek opportunities for feedback

Responsibilities

• Immerse yourself in our diverse parish and neighborhood communities and grow in your own faith through regular school activities
• The school guidance counselor will assist students in our K-8 school setting as an advocate for the development of the whole child
• They will provide direct counseling services that support the academic, social, and emotional developmental needs of the students while bringing a collaborative, solutions-oriented attitude to our team
• This work will be data-driven by identifying individual school needs and outcomes in the areas of academics, attendance and behavior
• Provide direct services to students in the areas of child and adolescent development, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction skills to help students in achieving success in school
• Support students in mentally processing their challenges and/or adjustments to school through goal setting and action planning
• Contact and stay connected to parents to assist them in the understanding of and constructive participation in their child’s progress
• Build and maintain comprehensive, school-wide preventative needs programming
• Consult with other school personnel in gathering and sharing appropriate information, as well as to establish staff roles and responsibilities regarding student needs beyond general academic education
• Keep appropriate records of cases for use by school staff members and non-school reporting agencies
• Prepare and submit timely reports on students referred for evaluation

If you are interested in higher education and looking for an elective to take this upcoming winter quarter, consider taking A&S 595: Workshop in Educational Leadership – Issues of Access in Higher Education instructed by Dr. Noel. This course is offered on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:45pm as In-Person: Hybrid. In this modality, there are some weeks where class will be held on campus and other weeks where class will be held online via Zoom. Chicago Psychotherapy (private practice located in Lincoln Park) is currently accepting applications for post-Master’s Fellowship positions (Child/Adolescent Track and Adult Track) for 2022-2024.

At Chicago Psychotherapy, we believe in seeing clients for their strengths, understanding individuals in context, and working collaboratively with clients and their families in meeting treatment goals. We use gold-standard, evidence-based, and culturally responsive practices to support our clients, with an emphasis on individually tailored applications of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and Family Systems Therapy (FST). We have expertise in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Mood Disorders, tics, pediatric emotion dysregulation, ADHD, Trauma, and adjustment-related concerns across the lifespan.

The fellows will carry a caseload of approximately twenty weekly clients, including children/teens ages 5-18, their parents, and/or adults. Within their weekly caseload, the Child/Adolescent fellow will have the opportunity to serve as a treatment provider on a large national study of the effectiveness of exposure-based CBT in treating pediatric Anxiety Disorders. This position will include weekly supervision by an LCPC, ongoing training in evidence-based practices, opportunities to give community-based mental health presentations/trainings, and support for the development of clinical expertise in evidence-based treatment of Anxiety Disorders. Fellows will receive the clinical hours and supervision required to qualify for IL-based independent licensure as an LCPC/LCSW.
