First Impressions

Oct 1, 2021 | Beginning an Internship

As I am with almost everything in my life, starting at my internship was a pretty nerve-wracking experience, though once I met my colleagues, I knew I would be fine!

On the first day, I received an email from my supervisor introducing himself and giving me a rundown of the first two days of the internship. He asked if I wanted an assignment already or if I wanted to wait till after I had a Zoom meeting with him and the other members of the content team. I said I would be able to start on any assignments, so I got one straight away. From there, I had a Zoom meeting with one of my colleagues for my internship orientation and training. We went through design training and how to use applications such as Mailchimp and Canva. It went smoothly, and she answered a great deal of my questions, which was helpful for my first day. I felt a lot more at ease after the orientation meeting. The next day is when I met my supervisor and the content team. Everyone was very welcoming and pleasant. A few of the team members lived in Chicago for a few years to bond over that.

My supervisor asked me about my working style, what hours I work best, and my turnover time for assignments in the meeting. They wanted to get a good picture of how I work, which I appreciated. Since the internship and company are all remote, I can work whenever and they wanted to make sure we were all able to communicate effectively throughout the week when we aren’t Zooming. Overall, my supervisor was beneficial in describing my tasks for the role and ensuring I knew every aspect of the internship.

Some of my first assignments were blog posts, all ranging from 300 to 700 words. The company mainly works with real estate companies and title agencies, so much of what I write is real estate-based. I wrote an article on recruiting Gen Z into the workforce, which came best from me since I am a part of the generation. It’s great to feel like you add something that the company doesn’t have. Likewise, another assignment was finding State Agency Managers for all fifty states for eight title companies, which was one of the most significant responsibilities I’ve taken on with Bowe Digital. I think it helped with knowing exactly what to research.

The first few days at Bowe Digital were tremendous, and I felt like I started learning things straight away. Everyone is friendly and great to work with. I’m not afraid to ask questions, and it is an overall great first internship for me.
